International Student Week "Our Memory is Sacred!"

From July 1 till July 7, 2024 in Minsk, the organizations of the GORUP "Center for International Relations" and MAVVUZ, with the support of the Belarusian Committee of Youth Associations and the Republican Youth Center, held a large–scale event - the International Student Week "Our Memory is Sacred!". The event was timed to coincide with the eightieth anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. This date is sacred not only for every Belarusian, but also for all those to whom the Republic of Belarus has become a home during their education.
Every year, many foreign graduates of Belarusian universities with pain in their hearts remember the tragic events that the Belarusian people experienced. And they proudly celebrate the day of liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. Thanks to this, the International Student Week has become an especially important and extremely responsible event. It was attended by graduates from about 33 countries. The event was attended by representatives of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Poland, Syria, Lebanon, Peru, Ecuador, Egypt, Nigeria, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Vietnam, Algeria, Palestine, China, Nepal and Iran. Representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Serbia, Slovakia, Cyprus, Morocco, Colombia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, India, Sri Lanka joined online.
Upon arrival, the guests of the republic were given an excursion aimed at getting to know the beautiful and prosperous capital of the Republic of Belarus. This meeting was preceded by the patriotic action "Holy memory of the Great Feat" at the monument "Tank Liberator" with the participation of foreign graduates and students, as well as youth associations of the Republic of Belarus. The next day, the participants of the student week were able to see exhibitions dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from Nazi invaders, and also got acquainted with the Student Village complex, the Republican Youth Center, the Center for International Relations, the International Association of University Graduates, literary and musical composition the architectural form has a "Student fraternity".
The central event of the International Student Week was a round table on the theme "The future of the world in unity and solidarity of youth – to be friends, and that means to Live." Among the invited participants were the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Belarus and graduates from Ecuador, Algeria, Syria, Poland, Serbia, Uzbekistan and many other countries. During the meeting, issues such as the role of youth in shaping the agenda of cooperation between public organizations of graduates, fellowships of foreign students of higher education institutions and Belarusian youth associations, "the key to quality education is a successful graduate" and others were discussed. The participants of the meeting were also able to express their pride regarding the feat of the Belarusian people in the Great Patriotic War.
The guests of the Republic of Belarus were able to take part in the republican solemn and patriotic events in Minsk dedicated to the celebration of the Republic Day and the eightieth anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders, to see the patriotic procession ‘Belarus Remembers!’ and the ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal Flame. The next important point of the programme for the participants of the International Student Week was a visit to the home institutions of the UWO. Among the institutions of higher education were BSU, BSMU, BNTU, BSEU and a number of other domestic universities. Foreign alumni visited their alma maters not only in the capital, but also in regional centres. The guests were able to familiarise themselves with the scientific achievements of the Republic of Belarus and recall the period when they were still students.
The International Student Week was a perfect example of the friendly cohesion that emerges between foreign graduates of Belarusian universities. The Republic of Belarus once again showed its hospitality and ability to organise large-scale events at the highest level. We can only express our gratitude to the guests and participants of the International Student Week ‘Our Memory is Sacred!’ and hope for further strengthening of ties.
